    1. Yes this isn’t true in general, but what I have done here is simplify the equations (1) and (2) in the line above. So we get r^2 = q^2 – 2(p^2) from equation (2); and we get r^2 = (2p-q)^2 from equation (1). Therefore in this case (because equations (1) and (2) are true) q^2 – 2(p^2) is equal to (2p-q)^2

    1. A has to be an integer, that is as big as you can make it while keeping 8A/27 less than 1 (because it is more efficient in crew to carry cargo on the pangs). So A has to be 3 — this means that 8A/27 is 24/27, and so B/27 is 3/27, i.e. B is 3.
