    1. Comes up pretty often. Just remember this technique and you stand a very good chance of picking up a few marks with little effort.

      Express the sum as S, find some multiplier that will ‘shift the series along’ by one term. Then subtract that from the original series S, and you get a simple equation that you can solve for S.
